Child (age 5+) and Adult Assessment

Psychological, Neuropsychological, or Developmental Assessment

Have you noticed that you or your child seems to struggle in school, work, or in social situations more than what you find typical, or that it seems to require significantly more time and effort to accomplish things than your/their peers?

Feeling so different from others but not knowing why can be a lonely and painful experience. When we see ourselves or our child repeatedly behave impulsively or in ways that are misunderstood by others, it’s difficult to see a way to move forward. Assessments can help provide hope and clear guidance for navigating the journey ahead.

My Approach

I am dedicated to working collaboratively with you, to address specific needs and goals for your evaluation. I take a holistic and person-centered approach, considering each person’s history and context, and honoring neurodiversity and individual differences as special and unique.

Neuropsychological and psychological assessment focuses specifically on understanding how brain function impacts behavior, mood, and cognitive abilities. Developmental assessments take an in-depth look at how a child is developing in different domains instrumental to life functioning.

These specialized evaluations incorporate a range of tools, such as cognitive tests, objective rating scales, structured interviews, and observational assessments, to measure various domains like memory, motor, attention, language, social and emotional function, and executive function. By analyzing the relationship between brain processes and what one’s daily life looks like, assessment can identify a variety of profiles. Some areas I specialize in:

  • anxiety

  • depression

  • ADHD

  • developmental delays & differences

  • autism spectrum disorder & social differences

  • learning disorders & cognitive style

  • intellectual functioning & cognitive differences

  • bipolar disorder

  • behavioral issues

  • personality disorders

  • obsessive-compulsive disorder

  • multicultural perspectives

  • neurodiversity-affirming care

Why Assessment?

In addition to providing a roadmap for future support and specific interventions, assessments can also provide documentation of medical diagnoses vital in advocating for more equitable school, work, or test-taking environments. This could mean gaining access to needed services and accommodations, moving toward creating a better fit at work or school for one’s learning/working cognitive needs. Some potential benefits include:

  • identifying strengths & weaknesses

  • targeted recommendations for interventions & support

  • documentation of medically-valid diagnoses

  • access to services

  • potential accommodations at school, work, or formal & high-stakes testing

  • greater self-understanding and self-empathy

  • increasing others’ understanding of your unique cognitive style

  • building of self-esteem and self-advocacy

  • greater insight for long-term life planning

The Process

Most commonly, the face-to-face aspects of the assessment process consists of: preliminary consult/clinical interview (1.5-2hrs, in person or virtual), 1-2 testing sessions (4-12 hrs total in person only), final review/feedback session (1 hr, in person or virtual). Between sessions, I will prepare, score, and interpret tests and measures; and write a comprehensive report including relevant history, test results, diagnosis (if any), and recommendations.

Like any medical diagnostic process, assessments are a significant investment in your or your child’s future health. Fees range from $5,000 to $7,000 including all time and materials from start to finish. Please see the Payment page for more information on fees and insurance.
